THE HOME: The eclectic interior and architectural design of Villa Pelangi (House of Rainbows) has been featured in international magazines and on TV specials. The owner's inspiration for the decor and color scheme came from studies of the seven chakras (in Hindu tradition, the energy "wheels" that power our body, mind, and spirit) . The property exudes an uncommon peace and serenity and it's lush riverside landscaping and airy, open lounging areas, will lull you into a complete state of relaxation. Truly Heaven! The multi-level home, guest house and cottage are available together or separately.
THE AMMENITIES: The totally enclosed backyard has a saltwater swimming pool just off the master suite which cascades via infinity-edge waterfall to a smaller pool off the "kid's room" below. A round hardwood deck off the two lower guest suites is a perfect place for al fresco riverside dining. Listen to the waterfalls and the children playing in the river, watch kingfisher birds and herons, and when night falls you'll be entertained by fireflies and serenaded by bevies of frogs. For the technophiles, we have satellite TV, DVD, phone, fax, wireless internet, and two stereo systems with outdoor speakers.
THE STAFF: The home is fully staffed with a maid, cook, groundskeeper, and night security guard. (Guests are encouraged to tip the staff at the end of their stay). The two lower bedrooms have air conditioning and can be completely closed and locked. The master suite is open-air. There is a safe available for passports and other valuables in each room. Optional car and driver are available for $55/day. In-home massage treatments can also be arranged for about USD$15/hour.
THE LOCALE: Villa Pelangi is located in a small, relatively undeveloped village on the outskirts of Ubud, the culture and arts center of the paradise island of Bali, Indonesia. Shops, museums, world-class restaurants, spas, internet cafes, night life, and outdoor activities are within minutes bike ride or drive.

The village is charming and small, with a local population of only 300 (mostly woodcarvers) . There is a neighborhood soccer field where you can watch local boys hard at play every afternoon. A 15 minute bike ride past the main temple (Bali is Hindu) , through the monkey forest (yes, with real live monkeys! ) brings you to a winding street packed with the best crafts/clothes/jewelry/art shopping anywhere, as well as tantalizing restaurants and bars. The fabulous Jazz Cafe where world-class Indonesian musicians play (and sometimes a famous visiting star sits in) is a ten minute drive. Ubud is in central Bali, making it a good place to do day trips to other parts of the island (Batur volcano, Kuta Beach, the Elephant, Bird, or Reptile parks, whitewater rafting, antique shopping, etc.) Popular Sanur Beach is 30 minutes by car; the surf beaches of Kuta and Uluwatu are 60 minutes.

SPECIAL NOTE: The houses are situated on old terraced rice fields, in a gently sloping river gorge, so there are many steps to traverse when coming and going-- Sorry that it is not wheelchair accessible. There are two clean and friendly resident cats (the staff cares for them, so there is no guest-responsibility needed-- just tolerance) . The property is fenced and has a security gate. All beds have mosquito nets. If you are squeamish about insects, frogs, and nature in general, we can recommend some hermetically-sealed and sterilized hotels in the area. Please be advised that Indonesia is very intolerant (ie: death penalty) of ALL forms of illegal drug use. Well-behaved children are fine, but it is not a child-proofed house. Smoking cigarettes/cigars is okay (outside only please) .
EVENTS/ACTIVITIES: The village is known for its young legong dancers and gamelan orchestra, and you can hire them to play a private performance on the deck in the afternoon or evening. With two days notice, the staff can make a party for you complete with seven course Balinese traditional feast!

Staff members are: Kadek is the major-domo and an excellent cook ("tukang masak"), specializing in local and regional cuisine, Italian, healthy/natural, Asian fusion; her English is very good. Wayan is Kadek's sister and will look after your wash and do the house cleaning ("pembantu"); her English is fair. It is customary in Bali, where houses are open, to have a "jaga" (security guard), not because of danger (Bali is one of the safest places in the world), but more for convenience should anyone need something in the night. Gusti is your strong and attentive night Jaga. Pak Tut is the congenial and talented groundskeeper; he speaks limited English, but loves to practice! The owner is an expatriate entrepreneur whose business takes her frequently to far-flung and exotic destinations. Her hobbies are travel photography, interior design, music (especially jazz and blues), scuba diving, sailing and horse riding. She seeks an exchange accomodation commensurate with her own. A car and driver can be arranged. The staff has recently been to "spa school" to learn massage and other pampering treatments.
